Why Northern Nicaragua is the Perfect Surf and Yoga Retreat Destination

Not all surf and yoga retreats are created equal. In the last ten years, surf and yoga retreats have exploded in popularity. The complementary activities of surfing and yoga, combined with a welcoming community and a beautiful destination, create a unique travel experience that’s inclusive, thrilling, and convenient for those without the time to plan their own adventures. At Amaru, we believe that surfing and yoga are transformative experiences that center us in the present. When combined, surfing and yoga can be both a thrilling and rejuvenating experience that awakens the mind, body, and soul. If you’re considering planning a surf and yoga retreat, continue reading below to learn Why Northern Nicaragua is the Perfect Surf and Yoga Retreat Destination.

Our Cliff Top Surf Resort is the Ideal Location for a Surf and Yoga Retreat Destination

Once you arrive at Amaru and pull through our gates, you’ll walk past our fountain and through our main community area under the shade of a massive rancho. There you’ll set eyes on what sets us apart from other luxury surf hotels—our view. We’re blessed to live on 40 acres of wild, lush land atop a seaside cliff that connects Aposentillo to the famed Boom Beach. Each nook and cranny at Amaru is full of natural wonder and stunning coastal views, from our dining area to our ocean-view yoga shala. We end each day together on the cliffside watching the sun dip below the ocean.

Our Community Cares

At Amaru, we’re part of a unique community in Northern Nicaragua that seamlessly blends ex-pats and locals. We live side-by-side with locals and other travelers who call Nicaragua home. Many guests who return to Amaru are thrilled to see the same familiar faces at our community events each week.

We Find Peace in Our Natural Surroundings

Once you visit, you’ll understand that Amaru is a special place. Our 40-acre surf resort sprawls atop a seaside cliff and is home to wild, tropical vegetation, fruit trees, our community garden, and loving Amaru pets. Post-surf mangos picked fresh off the tree, farm-to-table meals, yoga sessions under the shade of our towering banyan trees, and plenty of space to unwind and relax are all standard features for any surf and yoga retreat at Amaru.

We Have a Wave for Every Level of Surfer

Northern Nicaragua is famous for one specific wave, the Boom. The Boom is an advanced beach break that detonates in shallow water with a heavy lip. Surfers travel from all over the world for a chance to get barreled at the Boom. Fortunately for other surfers, there are dozens of waves around for all skill levels, from intermediate-friendly point breaks to mellow, beginner beach breaks. Our location gives you on the sand access to both the Boom and the best learning wave in the entire region, Aposentillo.

Our Yoga Shala is One-of-a-kind

There’s no better yoga studio space than our yoga shallow. Our yoga shala is hand built from local wood by artisan carpenters and towers over the surrounding landscape like a treehouse in the jungle. Just below the yoga shala, waves crash against the cliff face, providing a soothing score for your daily yoga practice. Guests are always welcome to use the space for their personal meditation, exercise, or as a quiet getaway under the shade of our banyan trees.
