Embrace Independence Through Solo Surf Travel: Why Northern Nicaragua is the Ideal Solo Travel Destination

Solo travel is one of the single most transformative experiences we can give ourselves. While it’s not for everyone and it’s not always easy, solo travel allows us to push the boundaries of our comfort zone by meeting new people from all over the world, immersing ourselves in foreign cultures, and spending some (often much-needed) time alone. Many travelers choose to avoid solo travel, whether for safety concerns, fear of loneliness, or just general apprehension about how to deal with life on the road without a travel partner. At Amaru, we welcome solo travelers to our clifftop Nicaragua surf resort each week. From what we can tell, Northern Nicaragua may just be the perfect solo travel destination. Your Safety is Our Priority

Solo travel has the potential to be dangerous, and we understand that. At Amaru, we're committed to the safety of our guests. Even if you're arriving in the middle of the night, you'll be shown to your room by our night guard who is on watch during all hours of the night. Our community at Amaru is built on trust and acceptance. It's the type of place where if you lose something, chances are it's right where you left it. We'll do everything in our power to make you feel safe, comfortable, and welcome during your stay in Nicaragua.

You’ll Meet Guests from All Over the World

When you travel to Northern Nicaragua, you may be surprised by just how much of an international destination our small community is. In addition to American tourists and travelers, we regularly host guests from Switzerland, Australia, Spain, Austria, Germany, France, England, and more. Our guests don’t have the option to spend as much time together as they wish in the water, during community outings, and at daily yoga classes. So, it’s only natural that many of our guests develop lifelong friendships. Over the course of our few short years of operation, we’ve seen an enormous amount of return guests who are always delighted to meet back up with old friends and pick up where they left off. Visit us to see why people keep coming back and why Amaru is the ultimate solo travel destination.

Northern Nicaragua is a Community Centered Solo Travel Destination

Northern Nicaragua lacks the touristic development of the south or other tropical beach destinations like Costa Rica. What we’re missing in terms of infrastructure and urban life, we make up for with a strong sense of community in our tiny, rural beach town. During your stay, you’ll see just how close-knit our coastal community is. Our local friends stop by at sunset each day for a cocktail to say hello, and we host two weekly community events: Pizza Night (Fridays) and Taco Night (Saturdays). You’ll start to see the faces you see in the water pop up around our property, and before long, you’ll be fast friends. Our local community makes Northern Nicaragua a safe and friendly solo travel destination.

Your Time at Amaru Can be Activity Focused

During solo travel, it can be easy to get bored and feel lonely. It’s generally a good idea to fill your time with various tours and activities to stay engaged while you travel. At Amaru, our days are full of fun and adventure, from morning surf lessons to daily yoga classes. In addition to our regular activities, we also organize several weekly outings, including trips to León, weekly Salsa Night, Volcano Boarding, and more.

We Welcome Longer Stays

Work remotely in Nicaragua

While many of our retreat and standard packages offer a week of travel, several guests choose to stay for several weeks or even months. During these lengthier stays, our guests become intimately familiar with our grounds, waves, and community. They develop their own daily routines and social circles here in Northern Nicaragua. There’s always an inflection point where after a while; guests feel more like family.

Northern Nicaragua isn’t just a safe and convenient solo travel destination, it’s a community-centered charming coastal enclave that welcomes travelers from all over the planet with open arms. Visit our Nicaragua surf resort to find out why so many guests return, year after year, to our little corner of paradise.
