Nicaragua Tours for the Adventurous: Volcano Boarding

If surfing isn’t thrilling enough for you, sliding down an active volcano on a toboggan may just do it for you. Cerro Nego is a young, active volcano just outside León, the charming, colonial town known for its gorgeous cathedral, excellent food, and colonial town square. Cerro Negro reaches just 500 meters in height, so the hike is doable for almost anyone. The slopes of the volcano are covered in volcanic scree, ash-like gravel perfect for sliding down. After an hour of moderate hiking, guests are rewarded with a stunning view of the surrounding landscape. If you’re up for a thrill, you can take the fast way down by “volcano boarding” down the slopes of Volcán Cerro Negro.

Horseback Ride on the Beach

You won’t have to travel far for one of our favorite Nicaragua tours. Just head down to the stairs of our Nicaragua surf resort, where we’ll have your horses waiting. There’s no better way to take in the views and explore our coastal community than on horseback. Experienced riders who feel at home on the saddle will have the freedom to gallop on the beach. New riders can take it slow on a guided ride and explore the local beaches and villages.

Hike Volcán Conseguina

Volcán Conseguina stands triumphantly over the surrounding landscape and is one of Nicaragua’s most picturesque volcanos. When the volcano erupted in 1850, it created a large crater lake at the summit and caused the formation of several islands in the neighboring Bay of Fonseca. We offer two hiking Nicaragua tours to Conseguina: one half-day tour and one full-day tour.

Release Baby Sea Turtles in Partnership with the Local Turtle Sanctuary

We work closely with our local turtle sanctuary to help educate our community about the importance of conversation. Officials from the turtle sanctuary travel to Amaru to release rescued baby sea turtles back into the ocean. It’s hard to describe the surreal beauty of watching these creatures crawl toward the sea and swim out to the vast Pacific Ocean.

Boat Through the Estuary

One of our most beloved Nicaragua tours involves boating through the nearby estuary. We pack our boat full of drinks and refreshments and set off down the estuary where we visit our secret swimming hole, wakeboard behind the boat, and take in the sunset views from the beach.

Relax and Unwind with an Ocean View Massage

Adventuring in Nicaragua can be tiring. Whether you’re worn out after a day of surf and sun or sore from traveling, recovering is easy with our massage therapists. We offer professional holistic Thai Yoga Massage and Classic Sports Massage at our cliff-top massage shala.

Explore León on a Guided Tour

León is one of Nicaragua’s most enchanting colonial towns. Explore the city on a guided Nicaragua tour to experience the best of what León has to offer. On the tour, you’ll learn how León played a critical role in the social, economic, and political development of Nicaragua. The tour begins in its colonial heart with a visit to the Basílica de la Asunción, the largest cathedral in Central America in the town's main plaza.
